Sydney Harbour TunnelThe Sydney Harbour Tunnel changed to cashless tolling on 8 July 2007 to improve traffic flow across the Harbour. To pay the toll, you need an electronic tag or an RTA E-Toll pass. If you use the Harbour Tunnel without a tag, register for an RTA E-Toll pass within 48 hours of your trip at myRTA.com or call 131 865. Additional fees apply for pass users. You can still pay cash for the Sydney Harbour Bridge toll. The 2.3 kilometre Sydney Harbour Tunnel connects the Warringah Freeway on the northern side of Sydney Harbour to the Cahill Expressway, south of the harbour. It includes a one kilometre section below the harbour constructed by the immersed tube method. The Sydney Harbour Tunnel Company (SHTC) owns, operates and will maintain the Harbour Tunnel until August 2022 when it will be transferred to public ownership. In 2005, the annual average daily traffic volumes using the tunnel was 86,800 vehicles, compared with 161,000 vehicles on the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Make the most of Sydney's motorways.
